Making a difference

At Press Red, we want our work to make a difference.  We want it to lead to an individual moving more at home, work or school.  A family choosing to be active in their leisure time.  A community taking an active approach to getting around.  And a support system enabling physical activity through its services and the built environment.

Our approach is simple.  We're curious.  Curious about data, about places, about people and about the systems that respond to their needs.  Curious to find out what's going on and to build a story to explain it.  And curious to find creative ways to help our partners build a powerful evidence base for their area.

We generate behavioural insights to inform policy, design services, and deliver active results for people and communities.

Understanding physical activity behaviour can be complex.  It’s rarely as simple as who moves and who doesn’t.  Invariably, it is caught up in the context of where and in what conditions people live and work.  The stage of life they’ve reached and the life experiences that have come their way.  It’s caught up with their health, their relative wealth and how connected they feel to friends, family and their community.  People are complex.  Their lives may also be complex and there may be a tangled web of issues influencing whether they live an active or inactive lifestyle.

We help our partners to recognise this complexity and work with it rather than against it.

By applying a range of skills and expertise we build a picture of physical activity behaviour.

Scott Hartley

Director

Energetic, direct and with a curious mind, Scott loves challenging conventional wisdom and providing new perspectives to overcome complex problems.  A critical friend to many leaders within the sector, he inspires them to embrace new thinking and hold a mirror up to their systems and imagine something very different.  A passionate believer that people themselves must be at the centre of solutions.

Shona Honey

Director

Shona loves the challenge of changing perceptions, attitudes and behaviours through compelling communications and as a visual thinker, is never happier than when sketching out ideas.  Always trying to find the human angle to a story, her approach is built on understanding the audience, capturing the essence of the story and presenting it with simplicity and clarity.

Emily-1_SQ.jpg

Emily Bradbury

Research Lead

Highly analytical, systematic and a stickler for detail, Emily takes a client’s project from start to finish, providing a contact point for client communications and the internal process management within Press Red.  Her experience shapes the design of our research frameworks and evaluation methodologies, ensuring we ask the right questions to provide qualitative and quantitative findings that challenge us and others to think differently.

Martin-4_SQ.jpg

Martin Hird

Data Analyst

Often to be found knee-deep in data, Martin uses his statistical analysis and data visualisation skills to extract insights on physical activity behaviour and other health and social indicators.  By, for example, demonstrating how multiple disadvantage is experienced by different groups of people, he simplifies complexity for clients and helps them find meaning from multiple data sources.

Liz-4_SQ.jpg

Liz Radley

Data Visualisation Analyst

With a keen eye for presentation, Liz helps us tell the stories we find within the data. Her approach is to unravel what’s important and communicate those findings in a meaningful way. Through the interpretation of Active Lives data and the creation of data insight packs for our partners, Liz is also honing her data analyst skills. Across the team, Liz drives the way we present our work, helping us to develop a strong recognisable theme at our core.

She also provides wider project support across the team and is our key contact for day-to-day communications.
